Burstner Motorhomes
Burstner was founded in 1924 in Baden, Germany by Jakob Burstner who worked as a joiner and carpenter. By 1958 the first custom caravan way made by Burstner, and by 1985 it had become Europe's largest manufacturer, producing 17,000 units.
Today Burstner is continually winning awards for their products and services. In 2006 Burstner won the promobil award for motorhome of the year. The winning motorhome was the Megavan, a semi-integrated motorhome which boasts a pull-down bed, typical of an integrated model, a circular shower and space-saving bathroom, and a travel lounge with adjustable seats. In 2007 Burstner won a Caravanning Design Award for their novalife© upholstery fabric.
In 1998 Burstner became part of the Hymer Group and production continued to increase, reaching a recorded sales figure of 200 million euros in 2002, a first for the company.
Unlike other motorhome manufacturers, Burstner now focuses solely on the motorhome itself and does not construct caravans or other leisure vehicles. Second-hand Burstner caravans can still be found on the market but this will decline in years to come.
Another key characteristic of Burstner is their up-market range and penchant for luxury models. Burstner is not the place to go for budget motorhomes; in 2009 the average starting price for the majority of their range is £45,000. The most basic Burstner motorhome, the City Car, has a starting price of £27,500. The integrated elegance luxury A liner begins at £73,560 and offers opulent features such as reclining lounge seats, a queen-size bed and a separate bathroom and shower.
Burstner motorhomes are exhibited all over the world at shows and events such as the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany and the National Boat, Caravan and Outdoor Show in Birmingham, UK.
Burstner motorhome models are built on a Fiat Ducato chassis which has remained a popular choice for many years.
British owners of Burstner motorhomes can join an exclusive club which provides an excellent opportunity to meet, socialise and make friends with fellow motorhomers, as well as a change to swap ideas and practical advice about their Burstner motorhomes.
The popularity of Burstner across the globe shows when looking at its owners clubs. There is a Dutch Burstner Club, a Swedish Burstner Club and Spanish Burstner Club.
